Are you quirky?

Hi! Are you perfect? Are you quirky? Are you beautiful?

Personally? No, I'm definitely not perfect! Even making this card brought out my imperfect side. Yes, I made a huge mistake on it. Can you spot it? No? Well, read on and I'll reveal what it was.

I will just say that instead of throwing the card away because it wasn't perfect, I took the advice of this incredible sentiment from Visible Image and embraced my imperfect self to make a feature of the error.

I had decided to use that fab sentiment before I even started making this card, and I thought it would team up brilliantly with the incredibly versatile 'Shape It Up' stamp set. So, picking the circles stamp for the main interest,  and the little square as a contrast to illustrate an imperfect, quirky but still beautiful shape (compared to circles) I set off.....

The circles were stamped multiple times in a line, rotating each time for a more natural look. Then I stamped the square followed by the sentiment, and I thought to myself "This is going great so far!"

Next I took various shades of blue/aqua/turquoise/light purple polychromos pencils and gently coloured each of the large circles with a different colour. Then the square got some red colour treatment to make it stand out.  "Way hey! We're on a roll now" ;-)

The square didn't stand out enough, so I put some wobbly lines each side of it to draw attention to it. Well after all, a square 'bubble' would probably wobble very ungracefully when it rises up to the surface, wouldn't it? It really wouldn't travel upwards like the smooth passage of a proper bubble, eh?  "Perfect!" I thought.

Okay, now to add more interest. Glossy accents and stickles should do that so lets add those to the smaller bubbles.

Now, I know what you're thinking - you think I smudged, don't you and that's why there are some enamel dots added. Well, no, I didn't smudge. "Yay! Almost there!"

So I picked my pale blue card blank, and a piece of red to make the mat, and without using any glue laid my panel on top of them. Stepping back to view with a critical eye, I thought "it still needs something else. I know, I'll doodle"

Fab! …. until I stepped back again for a final view. Shock! Horror! My doodled line was completely wonky - and I mean REALLY wonky! Obviously wonky! Unfixable wonky! Oh dear!

I was about to throw the panel in the trash when the sentiment caught my eye. Yes! Of Course! Let's embrace that quirky, imperfect wonkiness and make it beautiful.  Let's make a feature of it. So I set about chopping the sides of the panel at an angle to make the doodling look straight. And thus, the angled front panel on this piece was born. It actually works, doesn't it?  Thank you Visible Image for your amazing words (and stamps!). You certainly saved this card.
